WAIT, DEAR CHILDREN,
WAIT FOR CHRISTMAS! (2010)
“Is it long, dear Papa,
till Christmas comes?”
the children’s voices cry.
“Not long, my little ones, no, not long!”
is Father’s sure reply.
“But we must wait and patiently
greet every passing day
which God will send to help us
find the manger on our way.”
Wait, dear children, wait for Christmas—
happy, happy day!
Wait, dear children, wait for Christmas—
happy, happy day!
“Oh—the tree, dear Papa, is very tall,
and smells so fresh and clean!”
“Just so, my children!” he exclaims.
“Now see what these things mean—
God made us, like this evergreen,
to grow upward toward the Light,
and let our lives give off
a holy fragrance in His sight.”
Wait, dear children, wait for Christmas...
“The lights, dear Papa,
the Christmas lights!
Will you put them on the tree?”
“Yes, yes, my dear ones!
They’ll sparkle brightly—
just you wait and see!
The very first, way up on top,
is the Christmas star drawn near,
while all the rest fill every branch
with its message of good cheer.”
Wait, dear children, wait for Christmas...
“The gifts, dear Papa, beneath the tree—
our names are written there!”
“I know,” says Father,
“and you must cling
to the truths these gifts declare:
“that Wise Men gave the infant Lord
their treasures when they came,
and that our dear God sent His Son
to each of us by name!”
Wait, dear children, wait for Christmas...
