THE CAVE CAROL (1998)
The Light that made the world has come
into a hidden place,
A manger-cave, all dark and cold,
is brightened by His face!
His mother too has traveled far
to greet this holy birth,
And now the cave becomes for us
the center of the earth!
O cave of darkness, cave of Light,
what treasure in thee lies!
Tis Christ Who comes to save us all
and lift us to the skies!
To Lazarus, beloved friend,
four days within the cave,
He cried, “Come out!” and then to him
new earthly life He gave.
Just so, His Word can reach and heal
each fallen, sinful soul,
And from our darkness lead us toward
our true and perfect goal.
O cave of darkness... cave of Light,
what treasure in thee lies!
Tis Christ Who comes to save us all
and lift us to the skies!
Our Savior’s body crucified,
in Joseph’s cave entombed,
Was wrapped again in linen cloth,
with myrrh again perfumed.
But there, victorious over Hell,
the Lord of life and love
From this dark place ascended to
His rightful place Above.
O cave of darkness, cave of Light,
what treasure in thee lies!
‘Tis Christ Who comes to save us all
and lift us to the skies!
Let us today our journey make
and haste to meet Him there,
Anoint His body deep within
and lay our treasures bare,
For in each heart is found this cave
from which He rose on high,
And He awaits us in our Homeland,
far above the sky.
O cave of darkness, cave of Light,
what treasure in thee lies!
‘Tis Christ Who comes to save us all
and lift us to the skies!
